Are You Prepared to Comply with New Proposed FLSA Overtime Regulations?

Presented by Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP

Program Overview:

In 2015, the United States Department of Labor announced a proposed change to overtime regulations that will limit the number of white collar workers who will qualify for exemption from the overtime requirement. In May 2016, the DOL finally announced the changes, which will be effective in the coming months. Businesses should consider how the regulations will impact their pay practices.  We will discuss basic concepts of overtime and exemptions, with a focus on the changes and strategies complying with the new salary rules.

Jeffrey S. Siegel, a partner at Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP, represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment matters. His practice includes representing clients in labor and employment litigation, including claims of discrimination (e.g., Title VII, ADA, ADEA, Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 151B), improper payment of wages (e.g., FLSA, Massachusetts Wage Act), as well as state common law, breach of contract, wrongful termination, and defamation claims. Jeff regularly appears in federal and state courts, and before government agencies including the EEOC, MCAD, Department of Labor, Attorney General's Office, as well as state anti-discrimination agencies across the country. Jeff drafts and enforces employment agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, and nondisclosure agreements. Jeff counsels clients on day-to-day human resources matters, including workplace investigations, employment policies and handbooks, drug testing, commission plans, compensation, and employee leave issues. Jeff also handles labor-related matters, including arbitration proceedings and charges filed before the NLRB.

A 1996 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Jeff received his law degree from Boston University School of Law (magna cum laude) in 2000. After graduation, Jeff clerked at the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Jeff has been recognized as a "Rising Star" in the field of labor and employment law by Law and Politics Magazine, published in Boston Magazine's Super Lawyers edition (2007, 2010, and 2011).

Jeff is a member of the bars of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the First and Third Circuits, and the United States District Court for the Districts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
