What You Need to Know About Your Retirement Plan’s Target Date Funds (TDF)

Program Overview:

In February 2013, the DOL issued tips for ERISA plan fiduciaries on Target Date Fund (TDF) selection. Under the safe harbor and automatic-enrollment legislation introduced by the Pension Protection Act of 2006, TDFs have become by far the most popular qualified default investment alternative (QDIA) for defined contribution (DC) plans.  Many plan sponsors do not realize the significant fiduciary responsibility they have for choosing and administering their TDFs.  In addition, it is critical that plan sponsors have a coherent communications strategy to educate their plan participants about TDFs.  Join us to learn more about a very “hot” topic within the retirement plan community.

What You Will Learn:

  • Why plan sponsor’s should establish a Target Date Fund evaluation process
  • Understanding the plan sponsor’s fiduciary liability for their Target Date Funds
  • Why it is so important for plan sponsors to educate participants about their plan’s Target Date Funds and recommended strategies for doing so.
