Leadership Level HR:

Have your sights set on a leadership role?

Set yourself up for success by enrolling in our new Leadership Level HR Program!


Program Overview:

This is a unique opportunity to prepare for leadership from some of the best and brightest HR professionals in our region. Over this four month program, they will take you from the fundamentals of leadership through managing organizational change and onto leading at a global level. Delivered in cohort style, the program offers a variety of learning opportunities and platform to build a stronger network amongst other HR professionals.


Upon the completion of the program, you will be better prepared to:


  • Successfully lead a large HR function or an entire HR team
  • Effectively apply the critical skills and competencies required of today’s HR professionals
  • Align your HR efforts with the business strategy
  • Assess your own strengths and limitations
  • Leverage key relationships with other HR professionals

Ideal participants will have:

  • A minimum of 7 years of professional HR experience
  • A proven readiness to take a leadership position within the next 6-18 months
  • Support from direct manager
  • The ability to commit the time to classroom, homework and team projects as needed

NEHRA Members: $1299 Non-Members: $1499 (includes a 1-year NEHRA membership)


Graduates of NEHRA’s Leadership Level HR Program will receive a certificate of completion.

January 15 - Module One: Learning to Lead

  • Introduction to the HR Leadership Program
  • Learn the fundamentals of leadership
  • Discuss how leadership and management are both complementary and different

Laurie Margolies is Principal of LAM & Associates, and The Boston Mentoring and Coaching Collaborative. Her work focuses on organizational development, executive coaching and mentoring, and diversity and inclusion. With over 25 years of helping managers meet their business goals while balancing employee needs, Laurie has utilized her ability to confront difficult situations with a developmental eye, helping her clients arrive at effective solutions. Client's represent various industries and sectors, including universities, health care, professional services, retail and technology.

She held several internal roles at Digital Equipment Corporation, where she was responsible for the company's Life Balance strategy and initiatives, and several higher education positions from teaching to administration, including Dean of Student Affairs at Wheelock College, and Assistant Dean of Students at Wheaton College. Laurie holds a Bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a M.Ed from BU.  She is also a member of NEHRA and on the Board of HRLF.

February 5 - Module Two: Self Awareness: Achieving Career, Best Practices & Leadership Success

  • Participate in the Leadership Executive Assessment (LEA) and an Individual Directions Inventory (IDI)
  • Understand why successful leaders understand their strengths and limitations
  • Learn the areas where you are most energized and engaged at work
  • Build a specific leadership goals to achieve greater success



Joe Maressa is Vice President at Fitzgerald, Stevens & Ford/OI Partners; a global talent management firm.  Joe has had the unique opportunity to provide expert advice and support to senior leaders of many different types of technology based organizations.  He has held product development, sales and sales support positions in 3 Fortune 500 companies, started his own leadership management consulting firm and with FS&F has been a leadership, organizational development and career transition coach in high stakes situations, including life science companies, start ups, joint ventures and to one of the largest family run technology firms in New England.


As part of his practice, he has also conducted many workshops and talks on leadership, managing change and career transition, including speaking at the MIT Club, the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, the Medical Development Group, the Society of Human Resources Education and Development and at a Microsoft seminar.


February 26 - Module Three: Becoming a Strategic Partner & Driving Operational Excellence

  • What is "strategy”? and What is a "strategic partner”? discussion.
  • Build business acumen and aligning HR with the business strategy
  • Learn how to understand and shape company culture
  • Discover fundamentals of Organization Design fundamentals
  • Learn the art of policy design and implementation
  • Understand how to manage organization and individual performance
  • Learn Financials for HR Professional

March 19 - Module Four: Managing Change

  • Learn how to initiate Change; develop a change mindset in the business and involve key stakeholders
  • Develop the ability to working with people, and teams in the business; networking and getting the right people together
  • Learn strategies for implementing change, including planning and managing the change process and keeping people focused and motivated


Sarah Mann, SPHR, MFCP is a Director of HR and HRBP at ADP.  She has more than 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Marketing and Operations. Currently she is a Director of HR with Automatic Data Processing and is the principle HR leader for three different lines of business.  


Sarah’s passion is developing leaders at all levels of the organization. She takes a “hands on” approach with her clients and emphasizes building and driving a culture of talent development. Her work includes the design and / or delivery of several organizational development, change management and management development initiatives. She is a trusted advisor who has led her client groups to create higher performing teams.


Prior to ADP, Sarah was part of the leadership team for Alloy Marketing and Promotions, a youth marketing agency, where she held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility including Vice President of Client Services and Vice President of Operations. During her tenure, Sarah led national promotions for clients such as Converse, Timberland and Gillette, created an internal temporary staffing agency, and led several organizational development initiatives.


Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In addition to obtaining her SPHR, she is also MBTI certified and a Motivation Factor Certified Practitioner.


Sarah has been a NEHRA member since 2004 and has sat on numerous planning committees during that time. She is also a member of The Boston Club and ACPI-New England, and has an unhealthy obsession with dark chocolate. When she is not working, she can usually be found in the kitchen.

April 9 - Module Five: Building a Culture of Talent

  • Define Talent Management as a system
  • Align Talent Management Strategy with Business Strategy
  • Learn how to develop and conduct/facilitate
  • Discover how to measure Talent Management Effectiveness
  • Foster mentorship relationships throughout the organization


April 30 - Module Six: Leading Globally

  • Discover how to leverage understanding to create and maintain diversity at all levels of the multi-national organization
  • Discuss Global Nuts and Bolts, including understanding local labor laws, global comp and benefits design and managing talent globally


Michael Dean is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Harvard Management Company.  He has been instrumental in implementation of the HMC talent management strategy since 2011.  In this short time he has established a number of organizational and leadership development practices that have enabled HMC to advance its talent management strategy. 


Prior to HMC he served as Managing Partner of Trans-Form LLC since 1995.  In this consulting role he has been successful in leading major transformational programs for a number of leading global financial service firms. These change programs required his depth of experience in managing process, organizational and cultural change resulting from mergers, acquisitions or corporate restructuring.

Mike is considered an expert in implementing Program Management processes at the strategic and execution levels. His clients are some of the largest global financial services firms. He has worked on many long term assignments in the U.S. Europe, and Asia.

With over thirty years in Human resources, Program Management, Organizational Development, and Change Management, Mike has deep knowledge and experience in business process improvement and organization effectiveness strategies. His areas of specialty include talent development, global sourcing, integration programs, high performance work systems and executive coaching. In addition he is a certified Lean Sigma Black Belt.

Mike holds a B.A. and M.A. from Akron University and resides in both Boston and Tampa FL. In 2013 he began teaching talent management in the Graduate Program at Harvard Extension School.
