Project Management for Human Resource Professionals


Description
HR professionals, regardless of their specific role and responsibilities within the organization, have a variety of projects to be completed on a regular basis, some of which are strategic and will have an impact throughout the entire organization. This program - specifically developed for HR professionals - provides a simple process for day-to-day management of HR initiatives, regardless of their size and impact within the business.  A HR-related case study is used to apply the concepts being learned in the workshop. In addition, numerous mini case studies and discussions topics are threaded throughout the day.

All participants will be provided templates to use back on the job along with a simple step-by-step process to improve how projects are managed. Action planning is done at the end of the day in order to enable participants to map out a plan to get started applying their new skills and knowledge back on the job.


Target Audience

Human resource professionals at all levels interested in learning how to better manage the projects they are assigned. 

 

We will cover the following topics:

  • Getting buy-in for your HR initiatives
  • Project management basics and the role of the project manager
  • Project management phases
  • Using a variety of project management documents to better manage your initiatives regardless of the complexity: scope statements, communication plans, stakeholder engagement grids, change management process, risk management plan and risk registers
  • The project stakeholders – why they matter and how to engage them
  • Developing the Work Breakdown Structure and best practices for scheduling
  • Identifying and managing risks that will derail your project
  • Communicating about the project up, down and across the organization
  • Planning for changes to the project
  • Managing and motivating the project team
  • The five stages of team development and the impact on project success
  • Facilitating effective team meetings
  • Best practices for status reporting
  • Getting project decisions made
  • Closing and evaluating the project 
  • Capturing and applying lessons learned

 

Presenter Bio

Gina Abudi, MBA has 25+ years’ of experience in helping global organizations develop and implement strategy around people, projects, and processes. In addition to leadership-focused consulting, Gina works closely with a variety of clients to develop and deliver customized workshops, seminars and training programs to meet long term strategic needs as well as to facilitate executive sessions and Board of Directors planning sessions. 

Gina is President of Abudi Consulting Group, LLC and an adjunct faculty member at New England College (teaching for corporate clients) and Granite State College (teaching in both the Masters of Science in Project Management and Masters of Science in Leadership programs.)  She is also an as-needed consultant with Oriel STAT A MATRIX, serving as the consulting VP of Program Management, leading all complex, global projects for Oriel.

Gina is a professional speaker, keynote and workshop presenter on a variety of management and leadership topics. She writes a number of white papers, case studies, and articles which can be found on her blog: GinaAbudi.com.

Gina is lead author of Best Practices for Managing BPI Projects: Six Steps to Success (J Ross Publishing, 2015.)  She is a contributing author to Project Pain Reliever (J. Ross Publishing, 2011). Gina’s most recent book on Implementing Positive Organizational Change: A Strategic Project Management Approach was published by J Ross Publishing in February, 2017. She is currently working on her next series of books focused on enhancing leadership skills.

Gina received her MBA from Simmons Graduate School of Management.
