NEHRA's Webinar Series:

VETS 101
Presented by the
US Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service

Studies have shown that Veterans are more productive and have higher retention rates. Recognized business leaders advocate the good business practice of hiring veterans. Resources, assistance and programs are available, at no cost to the employer, for implementing veteran hiring initiatives. The US Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service will help you understand the military and veteran communities and connect you with resources to make it easier for you to find and hire qualified Veterans, National Guard, Reservists and Military Spouses. This is an introduction and overview of programs, services and assistance available to all companies.

Paul Furbush serves as the Regional Veterans Employment Coordinator (RVEC) for the US Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) in Boston, MA, providing employment resources and expertise throughout the Northeast outreach to businesses, employer groups, veterans' organizations, state workforce partners and government agencies. A native of Maine, Paul served in the Naval Submarine Service from 1990-2010. Following his retirement from the Navy, he began his civilian career as a Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) serving as an advocate for Veterans with local businesses and organizations around Titusville, FL. From 2011-2014, Paul served as the Assistant State Veterans Program Coordinator in Tallahassee, FL providing oversight, programmatic management, training and support for Florida's Veterans Employment Program.  Paul began his career with DOL VETS in 2014 as the State Director (DVET) in Frankfort, KY where he provided oversight for the Jobs for Veterans State Grant, three Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Grants (HVRP) and Military Transition Assistance Programs (TAP) at Fort Knox. Paul also served as an investigator for Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and Veterans Preference laws. While on active duty, Paul attained a Bachelor's Degree in Workforce Education and Training from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and attended Strayer University for Graduate Studies in Business Administration, with a focus on Human Resources.
