HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS
As we are all aware, the nation of Haiti suffered cataclysmic loses as a result of a magnitude 7.0 Earthquake. Many organizations in the NEHRA community have been directly affected as the tragedy touched employees, employee's families, suppliers, or business partners. Summer is around the corner!
TeenLife.com is a free online resource that helps parents and middle/high school students to find all sorts of meaningful programs, services, and activities when they are not in school. The site contains descriptions of more than 1000 overnight summer and gap year programs in the US and abroad, as well as hundreds of summer programs, community service opportunities, and school year programs in Greater Boston. Simply type an interest, like “Spanish”, “Science”, or “Baseball”, in the search box on the home page to view the list of opportunities, or look at all of the sub-categories in each section. Parents and students must be registered to access all listings and areas of the site, such as “Teen Help Wanted” and the community service listings. Registered members also receive a monthly e-newsletter, TeenLife Connections.
TeenLife is also hosting the third annual Community Service Fair on Sunday, February 7th from 12-4pm at the Mall at Chestnut Hill in Newton, MA. This event, which is free, features 40 non-profits willing to engage teens and 30 supporting exhibitors and sponsors. Families and educators are encouraged to pre-register to receive important pre- and post-event information, a free Guide to Community Service listing 150 teen-friendly non-profits, a gift bag containing samples and special offers, and free raffle tickets for prizes from participating retailers. Ten high school a cappella groups will be performing throughout the afternoon. Many students have found meaningful volunteer opportunities, during the summer and the school year, as a result of attending this event.
