NEHRA's Diversity/Inclusion Vision Print

At NEHRA, we are committed to proactively attracting, retaining, including and developing a full and rich membership. In doing so, we hope to be a power of example for organizations striving to maintain or achieve outstanding diversity practices.

We believe it is our duty to be a leader, and flagship for diversity in the workplace, which we define as "the unique differences, similarities, qualities, attributes, experiences, values and perspectives of our individual members, that combined, create a united and cohesive membership."

NEHRA continually aims to fulfill our vision by creating an extraordinary environment where all are welcomed, nurtured, given an opportunity to contribute and grow, and treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

NEHRA demonstrates it leadership and commitment to diversity in two key ways.  First, we have developed the A.I.M. Initiative to help NEHRA members connect with local agencies that help to promote diversity education and employment.  This initiative, launched in 2006 and spearheaded by the Board of Directors and the NEHRA Diversity/Inclusion Committee, has brought together 4 organizations with a goal to link increase awareness around the values of diversity and inclusion and to foster unique partnerships for sponsorship, support and member participation

In 2008 NEHRA joined with over 126 organizations and businesses as part of the Massachusetts Commonwealth Compact.  The goal of the Commonwealth Compact is "to establish Massachusetts as a uniquely inclusive, honest, and supportive community of - and for - diverse people." (Commonwealth Compact Mission Statement)

As citizens, service providers, employers and competitors - for business and talent - we are collectively committed to recruitment, hiring, management and governance practices that:
  • Increase the representation of people of color and women throughout our organizations, especially in management, senior management and board governance positions.
  • Retain and promote people of color and women.
  • Encourage our organizations to reflect, and connect with, the diversity of the communities and customers we serve.

Our organizations profit when we attract and retain people from a multitude of backgrounds. By harnessing their skills, aptitudes, experience and approaches to problem-solving, our workplaces, communities and Commonwealth will be richer, our marketplaces will be broader, and our ability to attract employees, clients and businesses - locally, nationally and globally - will be more effective.

We therefore embrace the goals of Commonwealth Compact and pledge to measure our progress toward them over time, using the Commonwealth Compact benchmarks.
