Developing the Fundamentals - Formerly HR Basics

 

Program Overview:

With experienced faculty instruction, the program is a great balance of theory and practice - and will prepare you for a well rounded career in human resources management.

The Developing the Fundamentals program is ideal for:

  • Experienced HR professionals who want to move from specialist to generalist
  • Professionals who are new to the HR field and need a more sophisticated understanding of the core functions of Human Resources Management
  • Managers in small organizations who are wearing many hats, including HR Managers

The program is meant to provide participants with access to articles; a book list; a glossary of HR terms, and links to important websites.

 

**The 2-Day Program is comprised of 4 modules (2 covered each day)

 

Day One:

 

8:00 – 8:30: Registration, Continental Breakfast and Networking

 

8:30 – 9:00: Opening Remarks and Introduction to the HR Profession

Learn the definition of human resources management, the roles and responsibilities of HR professionals, and review the functions and competencies of the profession.

 

9:15 – 12:15: Module #1 - Talent Management

Overview of talent management basics, including interview processes, onboarding, employee performance appraisals and learning and development techniques.  This module will also cover the processes used to identify, measure, evaluate, and reward employee performance including how to conduct effective disciplinary meetings and legal issues to consider during employee terminations.

 

12:15 – 1:00: Lunch (included)

 

1:00 – 4:00: Module #2 – Total Rewards

Learn the basic elements of a total compensation system, including understanding the role of base pay, incentives, and differentials in employee compensation. Take a look at benefits commonly offered by employers.

 

 

Day Two:

8:30 – 9:00: Continental Breakfast and Networking

 

9:00 – 12:00: Module #3- Compliance and Employment Law

Learn the key pieces of federal, state and local legislation with which an organization must comply.

  

12:00 – 1:00: Lunch (included)

 

1:00 – 4:00: Module #4 - Employee Relations

Learn the basics of maintaining employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation, and morale. Learn how to prevent and resolve problems involving individuals which arise out of or affect work situations.

Cancellations must be received in writing at least 3 days prior to the workshop in order to receive a refund.

 

CEU Credits:
