Program Overview:
Ready to Go Beyond the Basics? Get Ready for the Deep End!
Designed with the experienced HR professional in mind, NEHRA's Beyond the Basics program will prepare you for the transition from technical/content expert to HR leader. Our experienced faculty with help you build the critical leadership, communication, strategic and analytical skills needed to successfully navigate an organization at the leadership level.

The entire program includes nearly 25 hours of instruction, from experienced HR professionals with a passion for their subject matter.

Sessions include case studies, relevant exercises and tips/tools for you to take back to your organization.




Tuesday, April 12 - Communicate and Negotiate


Travel from strategy to implementation and every road in between. Learn how to evaluate jobs, leverage market data and align your performance management system. You'll discover the impact of plan design on budgeting, along with how to approach executive compensation. We'll also cover how to successfully present, communicate and implement a comprehensive compensation plan.

Tuesday, April 26 - Compensation Planning


Participate in a Predictive Index analysis and receive a feedback report designed highlight your own natural motivators and how they impact the way you process information, make decisions and communicate at work followed by learning the art of negotiation from an experienced attorney, by looking at different conflict styles and exploring the pros/cons of each. Broaden your approach to negotiation and discover principle based negotiation. This interactive session will offer plenty of opportunities to practice ways to be a more effective negotiator.


Tuesday, May 10 - Talent Life Cycle


This session will focus on HR’s role in guiding the selection process throughout the talent life cycle. From attraction and acquisition to development and retention, you’ll learn today’s best practices including: promoting your organization as an employer of choice to attract the best talent and making optimal hiring decisions to build high performing teams. This session also includes hands-on practice to improve behavioral interviewing.


Tuesday, May 24 - Employee Relations


Uncover the differences between employee satisfaction and engagement. We'll take a broad look at both and then deep dive into the Gallup 12. You'll also learn tips and tools you can use to measure engagement in your own organization.

Tuesday, June 7 - Benefits Strategy and Design


Deepen your employee relations skills by learning how to utilize basic tools and processes that will enhance your ability to resolve issues and mitigate organizational risk. This session will introduce helpful processes and tools, while providing step by step instructions for handling internal investigations. 


Tuesday, June 21 - Employee Engagement


Explore all aspects of benefit plan design, including how to align your offerings with the organizational strategic objectives. We'll cover key components of how to successfully transition from being a content expert to a more strategic role, by helping you understand the big picture implications of changes in benefit plan design.
