Promoting Financial Wellness in the Workplace

Program Overview:

It is normal for employers to have resources available to address the needs of an employee’s physical and emotional health, but what happens when employees feel stress and anxiety around their financial situation? It can quickly spill over and negatively affect their overall health. The connection between financial wellness and physical and emotional health is evident.

So what are some of the current issues pushing the reform in thinking about employee financial wellness? Financial illiteracy- A FINRA study shows widespread gap in basic financial skills and concepts, especially among young adults. Employer costs- emotional disorders are among the costliest to employers. Lost productivity- stress and related sleep deprivation can lead to poor decision-making, distractedness, and inability to control moods.

Financial wellness can be achieved by helping employees better understand and manage their personal finances. Providing financial wellness services in the workplace will give employees the opportunity to understand and optimize their employee benefits while learning personal finance basics (including planning and budgeting), establishing good habits, and avoiding excessive risks.

Key Take Aways:

  • Empower your employees to reach their financial goals and make the most of your company’s benefits via a collaborative, ongoing, educational relationship with a structured curriculum.
