Zetmara Lorenzo, a dance major at Boston Arts Academy, has been recognized for her creativity and sense of innovation. As a peer leader at the Central Branch YMCA, Zetmara has helped to promote diversity to her community. She assisted in opening lines of communication with peers in her neighborhood and business owners, to promote hiring of diverse youth. Zetmara’s involvement helped to breakdown stereotypes between 2 different groups, and create more opportunities for youth to gain experience in businesses where they had not had the chance to do so in the past.

Zetmara has gained the respect and admiration from other areas of her community, including the Cacique Youth Learning Center, the H.O.P.E. Poder Latino, and Teen Empowerment. Zetmara has proven her leadership in each of these areas, dealing with issues such as violence, homelessness, and HIV prevention.

In addition to her extensive community involvement, Zetmara is a remarkable scholar. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is the Secretary of the Boston Arts Academy.

NEHRA is proud to announce Zetmara Lorenzo as the 2007 Norma Kornegay Clarke Scholarship Award recipient.
