Giovanni Montalvo, a student at Boston Arts Academy, demonstrates a strong talent for promoting tolerance and community building. While working with a United Way program called HOPE, which stands for the Hispanic Office of Planning and Evaluation, Giovanni visited local shelters and performed community service. In describing why he found this work so rewarding, he stated that he was able to take part in community center discussions about overcoming the challenges that minorities face.
At the Boston Arts Academy, Giovanni has proven his academic and artistic talents. His teachers speak highly of his focus and how he ambitiously takes on honors-level classes. As an artist, he seeks out new opportunities to learn and develop. He anticipates graduating with a dance major in June.
Giovanni is looking forward to attending college and continuing his efforts to rid the world of ignorance.
NEHRA is proud to announce Giovanni Montalvo as the 2006 Norma Kornegay Clarke Scholarship Award recipient.
